Jenna and Carter's Love Story: We met in college briefly, but didn’t really get to know each other until after college through mutual friends. We quickly became best friends first and then fell in love. We moved to South Carolina on a new adventure with our crazy dog and we love morning coffee (and afternoon and anytime coffee really), exploring outdoors, trying breweries, drinking wine, making pizza, riding bikes, and just being together with friends and family. We are both super goofy and pretty laid back and just enjoy each day we are blessed with! What is the one thing you love most about each other? Jenna's Words: I love how kind Carter is. He is the most genuine and the most kindhearted man I have ever met. Gentle and steady in everything. Carter's Words: The one thing I love about Jenna is how caring she is. She shows it in every facet of her life, the way she treats me, her family, and her work. What was your style inspiration for the overall aesthetic and feel of your wedding?
Our wedding was a good old barn wedding. We wanted it to be fun and casual feeling but we still wanted beautiful and elegant and that is what we felt like we had on our day!
What was your favorite part about your venue? In other words, what made you choose it?
We loved the open spaces and the timeless nature of the venue. They had a historic chapel, really sweet areas for the bridesmaids and groomsmen to get ready, and an amazing barn for the reception. Our venue coordinated most of our planning and many of our vendors so it made for a relatively smooth planning process leading up the wedding, which we absolutely loved. But really, they had attention to many small details that we never would have thought of that made the experience better!
What was your favorite (or least favorite) part about wedding planning?
In general, if we could have handed off all of the wedding planning and just showed up we probably would have! BUT, we loved getting to spend time together and with family planning for our day. Our favorite part of planning was probably closer to the wedding as we went through the music for our ceremony and parts of our reception and were almost able to walk through our wedding day with songs and really get excited for the reality that our wedding was just around the corner.
According to Carter, the best part of wedding planning is food tasting and cake tasting appointments (partly because our cake was made by some mutual friends)!– Jenna
As a follow-up to that: If you could pick one thing to do differently in your wedding planning, what would that be?
We really wouldn’t do much differently! We would have loved to invite more people as there were some people who we would have really enjoyed having there, but we could not have anticipated the way our numbers shifted around. This is especially true with current covid dynamics, but luckily our wedding really wasn’t affected like so many!
We enjoyed every moment! If we had to give advice to anyone getting married it would be to stop periodically throughout the wedding day and just take it all in. Carter would look at me multiple times during our wedding and make a camera motion with his hand like he’s taking a picture and that was his way of saying take a mental snap shot of this moment. Also, I think everyone should do a last dance in their venue together with just them as guests are getting ready for the send off. This was probably both of our favorite part of the day and a really sweet and precious time together!
